Nigerian Albums Fans Are Eargerly Awaiting

Music Fans in Nigeria have truly been blessed in the first four months of 2022, April 2022, with a slew of phenomenal releases arriving on our playlists back to-back. From viral Tiktok tunes to debut projects through to remixed projects, it’s been a rollercoaster ride, with many great top tier projects that are all wonderful. With a truly huge amount of new music from various valuable Artists across every genre from Amapiano to Afropop to Hip-hop.

However, as impressive as 2022 as been so far in terms of project releases, the best may be yet to come as quite a number of ‘tested and trusted’ artists have already announced their intention to release a project this year, from Wizkid to Omah Lay to Olamide and fans are eagerly awaiting the releases while still savouring the songs of the moment.

Below are some of the most eagerly anticipated Nigerian albums of 2022 in no particular order.

Wizkid – More Love Less Ego

Wizkid has never been one to stick to promised delivery date, but he did announce the album would drop immediately after his tour and as we all know, the tour ended already and there’s no album yet but his manager, Jada has recently announced on Twitter that Wizkid was already done with his next studio album and he also confirmed it in a tweet some days ago.

“More Love, Less Ego” will be the direct follow-up to his “Made in Lagos,” so it has some pretty big shoes to fill!                       Release date: not available

Olamide – Unruly

Olamide announced on the 5th of February via twitter that he will be dropping a new album soon titled “Unruly” and this might be the last album of his career. According to the rapper, the album is 95 percent ready.

Omah Lay – Boy Alone

With two EP’s already, edging most of his peers in streams and awareness, many will agree His debut album is long overdue.The album will be called “Boy Alone” and is expected to feature WizKid among other artists. The first single of the album might be the hit track “Understand” that Omah Lay put out it last year.

Burna Boy – Love, Damini

On 28th April, 2022, Burna Boy became the first Nigerian artist to headline a concert at New York’s Madison Square Garden. During the show, he revealed the title of his new album: “Love, Damini”. Earlier this year, when Burna Boy announced that he will be releasing an album, he mentioned it would titled “Outsider”. Guess he’s feeling more at home and the plan has changed.

The new project comes two years after the release of his fifth Grammy-winning studio album, Twice as Tall (2020), The album is sure to be another testament to why He is acknowledged as the true African giant.

Simi – To be honest

Simi, announced the wonderful news on Twitter on March 26th, 2022, saying, “BUT I DIGRESS!!!! #ToBeHonest My record will be released in the near future. It’s a pretty honest record.”

The upcoming piece of art will be her third official studio album in her career, following the releases of “Simisola” and “Omo Charlie Champagne, Vol 1” in 2018 and 2019. Simi is the first female musician from Nigeria to exceed 100 million plays on Audiomack.
