How Ckay’s “Love Nwantiti” Went From Nigeria To The World

Love Nwantiti spends 30 weeks on Billboard Chart

On 17th April, 2022, “Love Nwantiti” reached its 30th week on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Owing much of its success to its going viral on TikTok, Love Nwantiti became the romantic and social media challenge tune all over the world. This brought Love Nwantiti to now be the highest charting Nigerian song on Billboard Hot 100. It spent 30 weeks on Billboard Top 100 Songs chart.

“Love Nwantiti” is not a song that got massive upon release with many people not even knowing the original release year. It was originally released in 2019 as the second track on his second EP, “Ckay the First” by Chocolate City through Warner Music Group with Ckay himself being one of the producers of the album. A remix of the song titled “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” featuring Nigerian singer Joeboy and Ghanaian singer Kuami Eugene was released as a single in 2022 and it became a commercial success.

Almost a year later, “Love Nwantiti” began to make waves on social media in 2021 especially on tik tok when DJ Yo– a Mauritian DJ remixed the original song and made it a sound on tik tok which got people vibing and dancing to the song all over the world. By September 2021, it had replaced Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber’s ‘Stay’ as the most shamazed song.

“Love Nwantiti” blew up suddenly and became an instant media sensation on Twitter, Instagram, TikTok and YouTube with over 15 billion views on tik tok and Ckay’s spotify monthly listeners rising to as much as 32 million. It also became the most certified Afrobeats song in the world.

The song has been remixed two times featuring Kuami Eugene and Joeboy, and another one with North African singer El Grande Toto. “Love Nwantiti” owes its huge success and widespread fame to its lyrical relatability, dreamily rhythmic percussions, and its pleasing melody.
