How To Be More Intentional With Your Life

Being intentional is about bringing a commitment, focus, determination and attention to something important to you. If you want to be intentional every day you need to get clear upfront about what you want to achieve and then take action on achieving it.

We humans easily get distracted and change our mind over things we set as our priorities, not because we planned not to achieve them but sometimes we are not just intentional about these things we need and we let little things steal that motive of achieving these aims away from us.

In this article, I will be sharing with you 5 tips on how to be more intentional with your time and life:

1. Practice Doing Nothing

In the modern world, we all feel the need to constantly be busy or ‘hustling’.

But we should resist the urge to manipulate experiences. Rediscover rest, do things you enjoy with no clear end goal or future purpose, like walks or playing video games.

2. Pay Yourself First

Do your most important activity – the thing you are doing for yourself – first.

Most of us try to fit these activities in at the end of the day when all other work / family commitments are done.

Prioritise yourself in the best hours of your day.

3. Limit Your ‘Work in Progress’

Stop trying to get things done all at once and limit time in progress.

A good way to achieve this is to operate a two-column open and closed list:

Open list = all tasks, to do’s and projects

Closed list = most important tasks (a maximum of 10)

4. Decide When to Fail

We are inevitably going to fail at some things.

Identify the stuff you absolutely have to do like paying bills and taxes. Then decide where you want to just do the bare minimum – a failure you are happy to accept.

5. Single task

When you have your list of things to do, focus on one big project at a time until you complete it.

Choose the bigger tasks first instead of small, easily tasks, this can actually make things more efficient.

We don’t need to do 18 things at once.

How To Become 1% Better Everyday

If you’ve ever wondered how to be productive at home or how you could possibly have a more productive day, look no further.

Below you’ll find nine easy tips that will help increase your productivity very single day:

1. Implement the 2 minute rule:

If there is a task you know you can complete in two minutes or less you should do it straight away.

This will allow you to focus on more demanding tasks and prevent a backlog of small tasks to do later.

2. Learn to say NO:

Your time is precious, if there is a task or obligation that does not serve you, learn to say no so that you can prioritise your time.

This is probably one of the easiest ways to boost productivity because it sets a standard to others for the future.

3. Stop multitasking:

Have you ever heard the saying “Jack of all trades, master of none”?

You may be able to tend to several tasks at once but the reality is that the standard of these tasks will likely be poor which will mean that you have to spend more time rectifying them.

4. Take breaks:

Yes this may seem counterproductive at first however we all know how easy it is to suffer from burnout.

Breaks allow our minds to recharge and often give us the ability to look at problems from different perspectives with a clear mind.

Give yourself 10 minutes.

5. Turn off your notifications:

You’ve just sat down to do some deep work when all of a sudden you hear a ping then another and another.

Notifications ruin your train of thought as well as destroy your motivation.

Use apps such as applock to make sure that you stay productive.

6. Track your time spent:

Evaluation is one of the most important aspects of boosting productivity as it allows you to determine which tasks you are doing efficiently and which you have to work on.

A simple evaluation of your time may result in a 40% reduction on time spent.

7. Use the Pomodoro technique:

– Work for 25 minutes
– Take a 5 minute break
– Work again for 25 minutes
– Breaks increase if you work more.

This technique teaches your brain to focus on tasks for selected periods of time. The breaks act as a reward for the hard work.

8. Make a to-do list:

Having too many tasks to complete leads to an overwhelmed feeling.

Once you have compiled your to-do list. Choose 2-3 tasks as a priority.

Completing these tasks will achieve more than a standard day.

9. Look after yourself:

Your mental and physical health will increase your productivity tenfold.

Sleep 7-9 hours per night

Fuel your body with energy producing foods

Prioritise relationships with loved ones.

Additionally, you should reflect on your day in order to find out what worked and what didn’t. Reflection not only increases future productivity, but also gives your brain time to decompress and de-stress.
