The quest to crowning the 44th Miss Nigeria is in full flight as the 37 semi-finalists were announced and the organizers gave the public an avenue to contribute to the selection process of the 18 finalists who will proceed into the Miss Nigeria headgame.

From the mountain of applications received, the jury was tasked with finding 37 ladies who are uniquely beautiful, have a passion for Nigeria and the girl child, and whose values align with those of the legendary Miss Nigeria Organization. The semifinals auditions were held at the beautiful Island Breeze Restaurant and Lounge in Landmark Beach, Lagos.

The contestants were screened by a distinguished panel of judges consisting of Bolanle Olukanni (TV personality/talk show host), Paul Ukonu (celebrity photographer), Onyeka Michael Ugwu (former beauty queen/medical esthetician) and Ezinne Akudo (creative director, Miss Nigeria).

The casting videos of each of the top 37 contestants have been uploaded to Miss Nigeria’s official Instagram name. According to Miss Nigeria Creative Director Ezinne Akudo, who was herself the 38th Miss Nigeria, “The referendums will account for 20% of the total number of points that will qualify contestants for the finals.”

On Wednesday morning, organizers introduced a new twist to the competition by introducing 3 wildcard candidates, chosen from a pool of nominations received from the public on social media. “The 37 semi-finalists and 3 wildcards need to get as many people as possible to repost, like and comment on their videos on social media. The video with the most engagement gets the higher rank and increases their chances of making it to boot camp and the grand finals,” revealed Akudo.

Established in 1957 with the theme “Empowering Women Beyond Beauty”, Miss Nigeria is an annual beauty pageant that highlights the positive qualities of Nigerian women. The winner shows exemplary qualities and serves as a role model for young women in the country.
