Pope Francis’ Homily on 20th Anniversary of Divine Mercy Sunday (Full Text)

Here is the full text of the Pope’s Homily at the Mass on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 19, 2020, the 20th anniversary of the day’s institution by Pope St. John Paul II and of St. Faustina’s canonization, provided by the Vatican:

Last Sunday we celebrated the Lord’s resurrection; today we witness the resurrection of his disciple. It has already been a week, a week since the disciples had seen the Risen Lord, but in spite of this, they remained fearful, cringing behind “closed doors” (Jn 20:26), unable even to convince Thomas, the only one absent, of the resurrection. What does Jesus do in the face of this timorous lack of belief? He returns and, standing in the same place, “in the midst” of the disciples, he repeats his greeting: “Peace be with you!” (Jn 20:19, 26). He starts all over. The resurrection of his disciple begins here, from this faithful and patient mercy, from the discovery that God never tires of reaching out to lift us up when we fall. He wants us to see him, not as a taskmaster with whom we have to settle accounts, but as our Father who always raises us up. In life we go forward tentatively, uncertainly, like a toddler who takes a few steps and falls; a few steps more and falls again, yet each time his father puts him back on his feet. The hand that always puts us back on our feet is mercy: God knows that without mercy we will remain on the ground, that in order to keep walking, we need to be put back on our feet.

You may object: “But I keep falling!”. The Lord knows this and he is always ready to raise you up. He does not want us to keep thinking about our failings; rather, he wants us to look to him. For when we fall, he sees children needing to be put back on their feet; in our failings he sees children in need of his merciful love. Today, in this church that has become a shrine of mercy in Rome, and on this Sunday that Saint John Paul II dedicated to Divine Mercy twenty years ago, we confidently welcome this message. Jesus said to Saint Faustina: “I am love and mercy itself; there is no human misery that could measure up to my mercy” (Diary, 14 September 1937). At one time, the Saint, with satisfaction, told Jesus that she had offered him all of her life and all that she had. But Jesus’ answer stunned her: “You have not offered me the thing is truly yours”. What had that holy nun kept for herself? Jesus said to her with kindness: “My daughter, give me your failings” (10 October 1937). We too can ask ourselves: “Have I given my failings to the Lord? Have I let him see me fall so that he can raise me up?” Or is there something I still keep inside me? A sin, a regret from the past, a wound that I have inside, a grudge against someone, an idea about a particular person… The Lord waits for us to offer him our failings so that he can help us experience his mercy.

Let us go back to the disciples. They had abandoned the Lord at his Passion and felt guilty. But meeting them, Jesus did not give a long sermon. To them, who were wounded within, he shows his own wounds. Thomas can now touch them and know of Jesus’ love and how much Jesus had suffered for him, even though he had abandoned him. In those wounds, he touches with his hands God’s tender closeness. Thomas arrived late, but once he received mercy, he overtook the other disciples: he believed not only in the resurrection, but in the boundless love of God. And he makes the most simple and beautiful profession of faith: “My Lord and my God!” (v. 28). Here is the resurrection of the disciple: it is accomplished when his frail and wounded humanity enters into that of Jesus. There, every doubt is resolved; there, God becomes my God; there, we begin to accept ourselves and to love life as it is.

Dear brothers and sisters, in the time of trial that we are presently undergoing, we too, like Thomas, with our fears and our doubts, have experienced our frailty. We need the Lord, who sees beyond that frailty an irrepressible beauty. With him we rediscover how precious we are even in our vulnerability. We discover that we are like beautiful crystals, fragile and at the same time precious. And if, like crystal, we are transparent before him, his light – the light of mercy – will shine in us and through us in the world. As the Letter of Peter said, this is a reason for being “filled with joy, though now for a little while you may have to suffer various trials” (1 Pt 1:6).

On this feast of Divine Mercy, the most beautiful message comes from Thomas, the disciple who arrived late; he was the only one missing. But the Lord waited for Thomas. Mercy does not abandon those who stay behind. Now, while we are looking forward to a slow and arduous recovery from the pandemic, there is a danger that we will forget those who are left behind. The risk is that we may then be struck by an even worse virus, that of selfish indifference. A virus spread by the thought that life is better if it is better for me, and that everything will be fine if it is fine for me. It begins there and ends up selecting one person over another, discarding the poor, and sacrificing those left behind on the altar of progress. The present pandemic, however, reminds us that there are no differences or borders between those who suffer. We are all frail, all equal, all precious. May we be profoundly shaken by what is happening all around us: the time has come to eliminate inequalities, to heal the injustice that is undermining the health of the entire human family! Let us learn from the early Christian community described in the Acts of the Apostles. It received mercy and lived with mercy: “All who believed were together and had all things in common; and they sold their possessions and goods and distributed them to all, as any had need” (Acts 2:44-45). This is not some ideology: it is Christianity.

In that community, after the resurrection of Jesus, only one was left behind and the others waited for him. Today the opposite seems to be the case: a small part of the human family has moved ahead, while the majority has remained behind. Each of us could say: “These are complex problems, it is not my job to take care of the needy, others have to be concerned with it!”. Saint Faustina, after meeting Jesus, wrote: “In a soul that is suffering we should see Jesus on the cross, not a parasite and a burden… [Lord] you give us the chance to practise deeds of mercy, and we practise making judgements” (Diary, 6 September 1937). Yet she herself complained one day to Jesus that, in being merciful, one is thought to be naive. She said, “Lord, they often abuse my goodness”. And Jesus replied: “Never mind, don’t let it bother you, just be merciful to everyone always” (24 December 1937). To everyone: let us not think only of our interests, our vested interests. Let us welcome this time of trial as an opportunity to prepare for our collective future. Because without an all-embracing vision, there will be no future for anyone.

Today the simple and disarming love of Jesus revives the heart of his disciple. Like the apostle Thomas, let us accept mercy, the salvation of the world. And let us show mercy to those who are most vulnerable; for only in this way will we build a new world.

Pastor E.A Adeboye Predicts End Of COVID-19

The General Overseer, Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, on Sunday prophesied that the COVID-19 pandemic would soon come to an end.

Adeboye made the declaration during a telecast Sunday service on Dove Television Station, warning that all humans must give glory to God for the victory that is approaching.

He said,

“We want to bless the name of the Lord for yet another Sunday. Please, continue to thank the almighty God mercy. I believe I have good news for us; I believe that the return journey to normalcy has started. I believe God that your pastors will soon return to their normal duties. Maybe at most, I will spend one more Sunday with you after which the pastors would be back to their duties in Jesus mighty name.”

He hinted that the return to normalcy might not be rapid.

“I sincerely hope that we would remember to give all glory to God. We thank for government; we thank God for efforts so far made. I believe they have done creditably well. It was a situation they had never seen before, but I would suggest that may be, in the future, they would include in their committees, men of God.

“I am not talking of small men like myself; I am talking of Chief Imams and Arch Bishops so that they can help them with the spiritual aspect of this warfare. I sincerely do hope that we would not admit that it is not our wisdom, not our ability, not our planning that had given us whatever victory that we have already got.

“We need to return all the glory to God because as the elders would say, rain can send you to the same hut more than once. We need to really give all the glory to God because we don’t want the victory that we had won so far to be reversed. If you ask any doctor, he would tell you that the most difficult kind of cancer to handle is the one that relapses. We don’t want a relapse of this scourge. May I remind all of us that, like I said at the very beginning, coronavirus, by the special grace of God, will recede. But, don’t let anyone deceive you; it is not going to disappear 100percent. Flu came about 100 years or so ago and it receded. Ebola came and it receded.

“Let’s give all the glory back to God. He would see to it that our victory is permanent in Jesus name. In all our churches all over the country prayer warriors have been crying to God for mercy. You would remember I have been asking you to keep praying to God for mercy for Nigeria. Please, don’t stop and don’t let this crisis take your eyes off the prayer points that I gave you earlier in the year against fire outbreaks and floods. We really need to pray; we have seen some fire outbreaks. We need to pray because the real big one is on the way; we don’t want it to happen at all.

“As soon as this lockdown is over, please clear all your gutters and all the waterways before the rain begins. Please, pray against floods. There is very little we can do other than pray against storms and other things like that. Be assured, in my own little corner, I am talking to God and I know He hears me; He would have mercy on all of us.”

Reading from the books of Psalms, chapter 30 verse 5, the cleric decreed that joy would arrive speedily for all mankind.

Adeboye and other prophets in Nigeria have been under fire for failing to see the COVID-19 pandemic in their many visions.

Critics, including Daddy Freeze, lambasted the pastors for being impotent in the face of the pandemic which has infected over 500 persons and claimed 17 lives in the country.

You May Be Holding Your Phone Wrong

There is a huge chance that you reading this are probably holding your phone face down and looking down at it,

Your head is bent forward, with your shoulders curved, if this is you, you should probably sit back, put your head straight and continue reading.

Let us explain why holding your phone in this manner is probably a bad idea.

Your head (adult) weighs about 5kg, and sits on your neck which is made of bones connected to one another and stacked on each other, This arrangement is called the cervical spine

Ideally, the weight of the head should not cause any problems, but when you bend forward, the amount of pressure put on your neck bones can increase to as much as 27kg as the neck now has to support the weight of the head at an unnatural angle.

For every inch you tilt your head forward, you increase the pressure on your spine by almost double

According to a study by Hansraj, a spine surgeon living in New York, his study showed what happened to our necks and posture when we use these devices wrongly

Phones are not necessarily the offenders here, but rather how we use them, You want to be sure that your head is straight up when you are using these devices, it also includes iPads, games, laptops etc

Let us not forget that the average person uses their phone over 4 hours a day, that is a lot of time to hold the head at an unnatural angle

The Complications

When you put this amount of strain on the spine, you stretch it and it may get sore and inflamed

This can lead to

  • Muscle strain
  • Spine problems
  • Nerve pain
  • Pinched nerves
  • Pain

The Way Forward: Prevent neck pain

We decided to share some ways to prevent this pain in the neck caused by hours of holding your device wrongly, this is called text neck and now very common among very young people

Here are some ways to prevent and manage this:

Hold your phone properly

Try holding your phone at eye level so that your head and shoulders are not slouched forward. Your ear should be in line with your shoulders, this helps your head maintain a neutral position and prevents neck pain

Take breaks

If you are on the phone for long periods at a time, You can take breaks every hour, for a few minutes, Set reminders if you have to, but consciously take breaks from your phones. We recommend that you set reminders every 45 minutes to take a break from a gadget, whether it is a laptop or phone or tablet, make that conscious decision today

Stretch

You can do what we call an exaggerated nod, how?

Tilt your head backwards and hold for a few seconds and then release, do this multiple times in a day when you feel the strain, also stretch your neck in either direction, a few minutes a day, front, backward and side to side

See a Doctor

If you are experiencing prolonged neck pain that is not relieved by these things, you should see a doctor to properly evaluate the reason you are having this pain in your neck

Did you find this helpful, share with your friends.

Is Female Ejaculation True Or One Of Those Myths?

Some of us have seen it happened, a number of us including you might have experienced it, that sudden gush of liquid when you were having sex, for some, it is embarrassing, for others, they just laugh. I have seen it happen and we want to answer a few questions.

What is it?

Why is it spoken like some kind of taboo?

Why do some have it and some do not?

Let’s start from the basics to answer these questions

Female ejaculation is when a woman ejaculates fluid during sex, usually from the urethra, for those wondering, the urethra is the opening to the bladder, the opening for urine.

It is common for this to happen when a woman is sexually aroused, usually during a sexual encounter. Wink.

Here is what you should know, however. Female ejaculation does in fact occur, and yes it is normal, in fact, perfectly normal.

Not everyone experiences it though.

There are two different types of female ejaculation:

The most dramatic is commonly known in some circles as squirting, this liquid comes from the urethra and is usually odourless, scientists have compared it to urine and found that chemically, there are some differences between urine and this “squirt” however small.

The second kind comes from the vagina and is typically thick and appears milky. It is usually secreted by some glands in the vagina, this particular fluid contains a certain enzyme called PSA that is present in male semen, interesting times eh?

It also contains fructose, a form of sugar.

This is secreted by the Skene’s glands, that are on the inside wall of the vagina.

So here is the gist.

The initial problem was this, scientists have always thought that women who ejaculated fluid were leaking fluid from their bladder, something called incontinence, in order to prove this, some scientists in 2014 had to run a study, they got a couple of women including those who said they experienced ejaculation and got them to empty their bladders.

They found that the fluid accumulated in the bladder during arousal and left through the urethra during ejaculation, it was the same for all the women that ejaculated.

Is Female Ejaculation Common?

According to the International Society for Sexual Medicine, many surveys suggest that as much as 10 to 50 per cent of women ejaculate during sex.

The second issue is that many women, do not talk about this. Some are conscious about it and some do not feel that their partners are comfortable with it.

Not all women will have the same experience when it comes to ejaculation.

Are there any health benefits to female ejaculation?

Sometimes the flow of fluid from the urethra might help to flush out any bacteria that may have found its way there during the sexual encounter, this may help prevent urinary tract infections, other than that, there is the benefit of ejaculation, it is important to know that female ejaculation is not a proof of orgasm.

During orgasm, the body releases pain-relieving hormones that can help with back and leg pain, headaches, and menstrual cramps.

Immediately after climaxing, the body releases hormones that promote restful sleep. These hormones include prolactin and oxytocin. This helps reduce stress and

Female ejaculation is perfectly normal, and research suggests that it may be common despite people rarely discussing it.

We are still trying to understand why it happens or what the function is, until then, we will keep you posted.

Feel free to comment on what your experiences have been when it comes to this. And do not forget to allow post notification for more interesting features.

How To Treat Premature Ejaculation

Certain times ejaculation (the release of semen from the penis during sex can occur faster than you or your partner would like, when this happens, it can be called quite embarrassing for many men and disappointing for their partners.

When this happens, we call it “premature ejaculation”

You should know that this is quite common among men, it is said that one in every three men has suffered from this condition at one point in their lives, it may even be the person reading this now

Anything that prevents you from enjoying your sexual experience is called a sexual dysfunction and because premature ejaculation affects your sexual lifestyle, it is a sexual dysfunction

How Do I know I have Premature Ejaculation:

If you are unable to delay ejaculation for more than a minute during intercourse, or you climax quickly when you masturbate you may have premature ejaculation

It is fine if this happens once in a while, but when it becomes regular and happens more than is normal then you should seek help

Some people have always had this condition since their first sexual encounter, this kind is called the primary premature ejaculation, others seem to have developed it at some point in their lives, we call this kind the acquired kind.

What Causes It?

The commonest causes are mainly in the mind-psychological, for example, a person’s first sexual experience, an anxious person, guilt, even stressful situations can lead to this. They are usually temporary and improves with time. However there are some conditions like: depression, or a person that has been sexually abused in the past, may have issues with premature ejaculation and may benefit from mental health experts

Some people worry about ejaculating too early and this may worsen their condition or they may be so stressed or even have a new sexual partner and the need to impress may cause premature ejaculation

Low or abnormally high levels of hormones in males especially testosterone may lead to premature ejaculation.

When Should I See A Doctor?

  • If it is causing problems in your relationship
  • If it is affecting your sexual drive
  • If it beginning to lower your self-esteem
  • If you cannot control ejaculation
  • If it is occurring too often and too soon

How to treat premature ejaculation

Masturbating before sexual intercourse can help delay ejaculation and this has helped some people

Start/stop method

One other method you could try is the start and stop method, How is this done?

Allow your sexual partner to stimulate your penis till you are ready to ejaculate, tell them to stop just before you ejaculate and repeat the process again, you could do this for as long as you feel comfortable, increasing the number of times you attempt, then you allow yourself ejaculate

The American Urological Association says you can do this up to 3 times in a week till you begin to feel you are in control and can control ejaculation, this is supposed to make you aware of the feelings before ejaculation.

Squeeze method:

Here, your partner does the same thing but before ejaculation squeezes hard on your penis until the feeling passes away. This can be repeated many times.

Please note that this will not give you immediate results, and there is no guarantee that they will solve the issue by themselves.

Kegel Exercises:

Imagine you are about to stop urine or hold in gas, you are clenching some muscles as you do this. Concentrate on those muscles, don’t squeeze your butt as your butt is not part of this muscles

Clench these muscles, hold for a few seconds and then release

Do this as many times in a day as possible, you can do them sitting, standing or even lying down. You can even try to do them while urinating, try stopping your stream of urine.

Reducing Sensitivity

Wearing a condom has been shown to reduce sensitivity, this can help reduce premature ejaculation.

Thicker condoms tend to be more effective than thinner condoms.

Some people may benefit from creams or lotions that numb the feelings on the penis, but this has to be prescribed by a doctor

Drugs

There are no currently approved drugs for treating premature ejaculation.

You may be able to finally treat premature ejaculation using these methods but one thing that cannot be ignored is talking with your partner.

They should be understanding and help you through it and focus on other aspects of your relationship.

Why Your Baby Boy’s Urine Does Not Flow Well Like The Baby Girl

Some times baby boys are born with an extra flap of tissue in the tube that leads out of the bladder called the urethra, it is unclear why exactly this happens, but sometimes genetics may be at fault here. This extra flap prevents urine from properly leaving the body, as other children without this flap have been known to have really strong urine flow,

This weak flow may mean that urine both accumulates and flows back into the bladder and then kidneys which may cause swelling and damage to these organs

There are two kinds of this extra tissue called the anterior and the posterior valves, but the posterior is by far the most common of these valves

These valves are congenital, what this means is that babies are born with them, the body sends signals to tell different tissues to stop growing, however it seems that the valves don’t get the message or the message never gets sent and they keep growing,

The posterior urethral valve is the most common of the two. Boys born with this condition have a 25% chance of having kidney failure over the course of their lives and so should be treated

How do I know my baby has posterior urethral valves?

In many cases, usually the mild ones, there may not be any symptoms until about 10 years of age, however, in serious cases, the first symptom may even present as a newborn as hydronephrosis (swelling of the kidneys)

The most common symptoms can be:

  • A weak urine stream, very noticeable
  • an enlarged bladder, which may be seen through the abdomen as a large mass
  • infections of the urinary tract, in newborns
  • crying when urinating or painful urination
  • weak urine stream
  • peeing too often
  • bedwetting or wetting pants after your child has been potty-trained
  • poor weight gain
  • difficulty while urinating

Severe cases can lead to the following medical complications

  • Dilation/swelling of the kidneys)
  • bladder dysfunction
  • renal function impairment and an increased risk of kidney failure
  • when urine flows backwards from the bladder up to the kidneys called a reflux
  • problems with the lungs

How will my baby boy be treated?

It takes a team to treat your boy, from urologists, to nephrologists, to radiologists, paediatricians etc, so your baby is in safe hands, however, it also depends on how severe your baby’s case is, it may be corrected with surgery, while the bladder and kidney functions are monitored well

Always speak to a doctor about your fears, speak up whenever you can

Health Minister Says Nigeria Will Spend N620m To Prevent The Outbreak Of Coronavirus

The Federal Government of Nigeria has said N620m is needed to prevent an outbreak of coronavirus in Nigeria.

The deadly coronavirus has moved beyond China into other countries and the Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, appeared before the Senate Committee on health to brief the panel on what the ministry is doing to prevent an outbreak of coronavirus in Nigeria.

Enahire said the ministry submitted a memo proposing for the release of the sum of N620m to take proactive measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

He added that the ministry had a multi-stakeholder meeting to deploy port health services to screen all passengers coming into Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the Senate expressed concerns over the fact that screenings aren’t taking place in the Chattered flight passengers wing of the local flights that arrived at the airports. The senators said such oversight could lead to the virus being imported into Nigeria.

As a result, the Senate ordered Ehanire to deploy health officials to the private tarmac and conduct screening of VIPs on chartered flights.
